Tim Leiweke, CEO of Oak View Group and former Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) executive, has been indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice for allegedly orchestrating a bid-rigging scheme related to the construction of the Moody Center arena at the University of Texas in Austin. The indictment, unsealed on July 9, 2025, accuses Leiweke of colluding with a competitor in 2018 to rig the bidding process for the $375 million project, resulting in a single bid and overcharging taxpayers. The Justice Department's Antitrust Division, under the Trump administration, highlighted this case as part of broader efforts to address monopolistic practices in the live entertainment and sports venue sectors. Following the indictment, Leiweke stepped down as CEO of Oak View Group and transitioned to the role of vice chair of its board of directors. Oak View Group had also been involved in plans to build an NBA-ready arena in Las Vegas, a project now uncertain amid these developments. Leiweke is also the majority owner of Climate Pledge Arena. The DOJ's action reflects an intensified crackdown on bid rigging and antitrust violations in public university arena projects and the live entertainment industry.
