U.S. authorities have charged Maximiliano Pilipis, the owner of AurumXchange, with money laundering and tax crimes related to the Silk Road marketplace. The Department of Justice (DOJ) alleges that Pilipis funneled funds tied to the notorious online black market, which was shut down in 2013. In a separate case, former FTX executive Nishad Singh is set to be sentenced for his role in a massive crypto fraud involving the theft of approximately $8 billion in customer funds from the now-bankrupt FTX exchange. Singh's sentencing follows the convictions of his former boss, Sam Bankman-Fried, who received a 25-year prison sentence, and Caroline Ellison, who was sentenced to 2 years in prison. Notably, Singh received a letter of support from John Ray on the eve of his sentencing.
