Libya has submitted a note verbale to the United Nations enclosing a map that claims the outer limits of its continental shelf in the Mediterranean Sea extending up to the island of Crete. This move calls on Greece and Egypt to suspend their exploration activities and contests ongoing research and bidding processes in the area. Greek diplomatic sources have responded by stating that Libya's claim reflects its longstanding positions but does not produce legal effects. The submission is viewed as influenced by Turkey, which recently formalized a continental shelf agreement with Libya. Meanwhile, in a separate development, Greek authorities have charged the former wife, her current partner, and three accomplices in connection with the murder of a Polish professor in Agia Paraskevi. Investigations revealed that the killing was allegedly ordered by the former spouse, with the suspects appearing before the Evelpidon courts.
