Mexican federal authorities, in coordination with the FBI, have conducted multiple operations resulting in significant drug seizures and arrests linked to fentanyl trafficking. On June 21, 2025, three individuals were detained in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, during a joint operation involving Mexican security forces and the FBI. Among those arrested were an American citizen and a dual national, with one subject having an outstanding arrest warrant in the United States. Authorities confiscated 110,000 fentanyl pills during this operation. Subsequently, on July 2, 2025, the Mexican Attorney General's Office (FGR) announced the seizure of 200,000 fentanyl pills and the arrest of two men during an inspection of a passenger bus on the Caborca–Sonoyta highway in Sonora. Additionally, on July 7 and 8, federal forces in Tijuana, Baja California, detained six alleged members of the Los Mayos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel during a raid that also resulted in the seizure of various drugs, including fentanyl, firearms, and other items. Separately, authorities apprehended the driver of a tractor-trailer in Tijuana carrying 564 packages of methamphetamine weighing approximately 1,140 kilograms. In Sinaloa, 11 suspected members of Los Mayos were arrested following an attack on state police, with authorities confiscating multiple weapons and vehicles. In Chiapas, a federal and local operation in San Cristóbal de las Casas led to the detention of nine alleged Sinaloa Cartel members and left one municipal police officer injured.
