Alejandro Gertz Manero, Mexico's Attorney General, has disclosed that the legal defense team of boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. has filed between five and six amparos, or legal injunctions, in an attempt to prevent his detention upon extradition to Mexico. These amparos have been rejected. Chávez Jr. is currently detained in the United States and is awaiting a deportation hearing. The Mexican authorities have been seeking his extradition since 2023. The boxer is linked to allegations involving organized crime and arms trafficking, specifically connections to the Sinaloa Cartel. Gertz Manero clarified that there was confusion due to two separate hearings: one related to previous offenses and another concerning deportation. The Mexican government is prepared to initiate judicial proceedings against Chávez Jr. immediately upon his arrival in Mexico.
