Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its Quds Base ground forces, acting with the Intelligence Ministry, killed 13 militants during three coordinated operations in the south-eastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan early Wednesday. The raids took place around the towns of Iranshahr and Khash, the IRGC announced through state media, adding that several suspects were also detained and weapons were seized. The corps said those targeted were involved in recent assaults on security forces, including attacks claimed by the Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl. The restive border province, which neighbours Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been the scene of insurgent activity and trafficking networks. Wednesday’s action follows a series of security operations this month in which Iranian forces reported killing six militants in the south-west and arresting two others. Officials said they would maintain a heightened security posture in Sistan-Baluchestan to deter further attacks.
