Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has announced his intention to urge Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the next cabinet meeting to propose immediate and practical steps to dismantle the Palestinian Authority. Ben-Gvir described the Palestinian Authority and its leader, Mahmoud Abbas, as a "terrorist entity" and framed the dismantling as a response to Abbas's reported plans to declare a Palestinian state at an upcoming United Nations General Assembly conference. Additionally, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has approved the construction of 3,401 housing units near Ma’ale Adumim, in the E1 area, a plan that had been frozen for 20 years. Smotrich stated that the E1 expansion plan will undermine the idea of a Palestinian state. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has also reiterated Israel's refusal to allow its land to be used for the creation of a Palestinian state. Furthermore, Ben-Gvir has threatened to destroy the grave of anti-colonial leader Izzeddin al-Qassam, signaling further tensions. These developments reflect a coordinated approach within the Israeli government to counter Palestinian statehood ambitions and expand Israeli settlements in contested areas near Jerusalem.
