Israel’s Saar Rejects Any Post-War Gaza Role for Hamas

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said the government will not accept any arrangement that leaves Hamas in power in Gaza, calling such an outcome a “tragedy” for both Israelis and Palestinians. In a broadcast statement on Tuesday, Saar warned that allowing the militant group to consolidate control would amount to creating a “jihadist terror state” inside Israel’s historic homeland. Saar argued that recent international pressure on Israel has only strengthened Hamas’s position and reiterated that Jerusalem would oppose any two-state solution that legitimises the organisation.
