Israeli airstrikes carried out before dawn on Thursday killed at least 55 Palestinians and wounded dozens more across the Gaza Strip, Gaza’s Civil Defense and medical personnel said. The fatalities include women and children. Sixteen people died in a single strike on Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, according to hospital staff. Separate raids targeted tents sheltering displaced families in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis, civilians waiting near a medical facility for food assistance, and homes in the Bureij and Nuseirat refugee camps. The Israel Defense Forces have not commented on the reports. The latest violence pushes the Palestinian death toll in the enclave to nearly 57,700 since hostilities erupted in October 2023, according to Gaza health authorities, complicating ongoing international efforts to broker a sustained cease-fire.
