New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso launched a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning at Truist Park, giving the National League a 5-0 cushion in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The opposite-field drive off Kansas City Royals left-hander Kris Bubic was Alonso’s first career All-Star Game home run and the first by a Met in the midsummer showcase since 2006. Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll immediately followed with a solo shot to push the lead to 6-0, before Oakland Athletics slugger Brent Rooker answered in the top of the frame with a 407-foot three-run blast that trimmed the American League’s deficit to 6-3. The game remained in the sixth inning as of the latest update.
