Major League Baseball on Sunday released the full rosters for the 2025 All-Star Game, awarding the New York Mets three places while omitting star outfielder Juan Soto in one of the night’s biggest surprises. Shortstop Francisco Lindor will start for the National League, and first-baseman Pete Alonso and closer Edwin Díaz were selected as reserves. Soto, 26, leads the NL in offensive WAR at 4.0 and in walks with 72, ranks second in on-base percentage at .401 and third in runs scored with 65. He is batting .263 with 21 home runs, 51 RBI and a .904 OPS after being named the league’s Player of the Month for June, heightening criticism of the initial ballot results decided by players and the Commissioner’s Office. Alonso, making his fifth All-Star appearance, is hitting .287 with 20 homers and 73 RBI but said he will skip the Home Run Derby to rest for the second half. Díaz, an All-Star for the third time, has posted a 1.80 ERA and converted 18 of 19 save chances in his comeback season following knee surgery. MLB guarantees at least one representative from each club and allows for injury replacements, leaving open the possibility that Soto could still be added if an NL outfielder withdraws. The Midsummer Classic is set for July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta.
