The Toronto Blue Jays secured a 5–3 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Sunday, winning the three-game series behind first-inning home runs from Addison Barger and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The pair went deep on consecutive pitches from Walker Buehler, giving Toronto an early 2–0 lead that it never relinquished. Barger’s shot was his ninth of the season, while Guerrero’s drive over the Green Monster marked his team-leading 12th. Boston tied the game briefly, but Toronto responded with two runs in the fourth when Andrés Giménez singled in the go-ahead run and Buehler forced in another with a bases-loaded walk. Yariel Rodríguez bridged the middle innings with 1⅔ scoreless frames to earn the win, and Jeff Hoffman struck out three in the ninth for his 18th save. Buehler, signed to a one-year, US$21.05 million contract, lasted four innings and allowed four earned runs, falling to 5-6. The right-hander has a 7.80 ERA over his past six starts. The loss is Boston’s seventh in eight games and its third straight series defeat, dropping the club to 3-7 against Toronto this season. The Blue Jays improved to 7-3 versus the Red Sox and head home to face the New York Yankees on Monday, when veteran right-hander Max Scherzer is slated for his second start since returning from a thumb injury. Boston turns to left-hander Garrett Crochet against the Cincinnati Reds as it attempts to halt its slide.
