Milwaukee Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski has opened his major-league career with a record-setting run, becoming the first pitcher since 1900 to throw 11 consecutive hitless innings as a starter. The 22-year-old right-hander began the streak with five no-hit frames in his June 12 debut against St. Louis and extended it through six perfect innings at Minnesota on June 20 before surrendering a two-run homer to Matt Wallner in the seventh. Across his first two outings Misiorowski worked 11 innings, allowed just one hit and two earned runs, walked five and struck out 11, while lighting up radar guns with a fastball that touched 102.1 mph. According to OptaStats, he is the only pitcher in the modern era whose wins (2) outnumber hits allowed (1) after his first two career starts; 43 of his first 167 pitches registered at least 100 mph. The dominance has continued. Misiorowski spun five scoreless innings against Pittsburgh on June 25, leaving him with only three hits surrendered to the first 47 batters he faced in the majors. On July 9 he punched out a career-high 12 Dodgers over six innings of one-run ball, pushing his early totals to 22 strikeouts in his last two appearances and confirming his rapid ascent from top prospect to potential staff ace.
