Cam Schlittler, a 24-year-old right-hander from Walpole, Massachusetts, made his Major League debut for the New York Yankees on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, starting against the Seattle Mariners. The 6-foot-6 Northeastern University alumnus impressed with a fastball that averaged 97.9 mph and touched 100. He worked 5⅓ innings, surrendering four hits, three runs and two walks while striking out seven, including a 99.6-mph called third strike on Cal Raleigh for his first big-league punch-out. The heater accounted for the seven fastest pitches by a Yankee this season and earned Schlittler a standing ovation when he left the mound. Drafted in the seventh round in 2022, Schlittler was summoned from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after recording a 3.80 ERA in five starts, following a dominant stretch at Double-A Somerset. He is the 12th former Northeastern player to reach the majors, with dozens of family members on hand to witness his debut.
