Jake Cronenworth delivered a two-out, bases-loaded single in the 10th inning to give the San Diego Padres a 3–2 walk-off win over the Texas Rangers at Petco Park on Friday night. Cronenworth drove in automatic runner Jackson Merrill after Robert Garcia intentionally walked Manny Machado and struck out Luis Arraez before Gavin Sheets reached on a single to load the bases. Machado earlier homered 440 feet to straightaway center—his 356th career shot—and added a second hit to move within three of 2,000 for his career. The Rangers opened the scoring in the third when Marcus Semien’s two-run double plated Josh Smith and Corey Seager, but Texas was held scoreless over the final seven innings. Adrian Morejon earned the win in relief; Garcia took the loss. The defeat sent Texas to its fourth extra-inning loss in six such games over a nine-game span. Manager Bruce Bochy said the club expects left fielder Wyatt Langford, sidelined since June 25 with an oblique strain, to return to the lineup for Saturday’s contest as the Rangers attempt to even the three-game series.
