San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey, batting .188 entering the night, delivered a three-run inside-the-park walk-off home run off Philadelphia Phillies reliever Jordan Romano to cap a 4–3 comeback victory at Oracle Park on Tuesday. The ball struck the brick wall in right-center, skidded along the warning track and allowed Bailey to score standing up, erasing a 3–1 deficit with one out in the ninth inning. Casey Schmitt opened the frame with a double and Wilmer Flores followed with a single before Bailey’s drive, which sent the sell-out crowd into a frenzy. Ryan Walker recorded the final out in the top half of the inning and was credited with the win, while Romano fell to 1–4. Phillies All-Star Kyle Schwarber had earlier belted his 28th homer, a two-run shot into McCovey Cove. According to Baseball-Reference, Bailey’s blast is the first inside-the-park walk-off home run by a catcher since Bennie Tate accomplished the feat on Aug. 11, 1926, and the first by any major-league player since 2016. The victory was the Giants’ fourth straight, lifting them to 51-42 and keeping them five games behind the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
