The #Mets have won a baseball game. They beat the Brewers, 7-3. Nimmo and Lindor led the way. Bullpen did its job. Now, can they repeat this incredible feat tomorrow night?
The New York Mets halted a four-game skid by defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 7-3 in the nightcap of a day-night doubleheader at Citi Field, splitting the twin bill after dropping the opener 7-2. A crowd of 41,123 watched as Brandon Nimmo drilled a first-pitch slider from hard-throwing rookie Jacob Misiorowski into the right-field seats for a grand slam, his 16th homer of the season, in the second inning. Francisco Lindor followed Nimmo’s blast with a solo home run on the next at-bat and later added an RBI single and run-scoring double, finishing with three hits and four RBIs. Misiorowski, who entered 3-0 with a 1.13 ERA, was charged with five runs in two innings. Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio hit back-to-back homers in the sixth to pull Milwaukee within three, but New York’s bullpen—Richard Lovelady, Ryne Stanek and Edwin Díaz—combined for three scoreless frames, Díaz recording a four-out save, his 17th. Earlier, the Brewers won the opener when Joey Ortiz belted a grand slam off Reed Garrett, erasing the Mets’ 2-1 lead. The split left New York seeking momentum after losing 14 of its previous 17 games.
