Ohtani Hits 40th Homer, Dodgers Thump Blue Jays 9-1

Shohei Ohtani blasted his 40th home run of the season, becoming the first player in club history to reach the mark in three consecutive years and the fourth time overall in his career. The solo shot off Toronto starter Chris Bassitt sailed over the centre-field wall in the fifth inning and moved the Los Angeles star within one of National League leader Kyle Schwarber. Ohtani finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk, extending his hitting streak to eight games and logging his fifth multi-hit performance of August. His milestone effort powered the Dodgers to a 9–1 victory at Dodger Stadium, their second straight win and one that lifted the club to a 68-49 record. Left-hander Blake Snell dominated over five shutout innings, striking out 10 and allowing three hits to improve to 2-1. Max Muncy opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the fourth, and Los Angeles broke the game open with six runs in the sixth, highlighted by two-run singles from rookie Dalton Rushing and Mookie Betts. Bassitt fell to 11-6 after yielding four runs in five innings.
