Philadelphia Phillies ace Zack Wheeler delivered a one-hit complete game in a 3–1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, striking out 12 and needing just 108 pitches. The solo home run he allowed in the fifth inning was the Reds’ only baserunner, marking Wheeler’s first complete game since 2021 and underscoring his current run of form. The gem capped a week that began with Wheeler fanning 10 over eight shutout innings in a 4–0 win against the San Diego Padres on Monday, a game that also marked Bryce Harper’s return from nearly a month on the injured list and gave Philadelphia its 50th win of the season. Between the two starts, Major League Baseball named Wheeler the National League Pitcher of the Month after he produced a 0.58 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 31 June innings. At age 35, Wheeler owns a 2.29 ERA, 135 strikeouts and just 25 walks across 106 innings this season, positioning him squarely in early Cy Young discussions and helping keep the Phillies atop the NL East.
