New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge sustained a cut near his right eye after being struck by an errant throw from shortstop Anthony Volpe as the team left the field at the end of the fourth inning of Saturday’s Subway Series game at Citi Field. The ball shattered Judge’s sunglasses and drew blood, according to broadcast footage and multiple reports. After receiving on-field treatment and a small bandage, the 32-year-old right fielder remained in the lineup and returned to his position for the bottom of the fifth inning. Club officials said Judge showed no signs of a concussion and was cleared to continue playing. The mishap adds to a difficult stretch for Volpe, who was pinch-hit for in the ninth inning of the Yankees’ loss the previous night amid the team’s five-game skid. No disciplinary action is expected, and both players are slated to be available for the remainder of the two-game series against the New York Mets.
