Marvel Studios has unveiled a new clip from “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” in which Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer warns that Earth has been “marked for death,” confirming the cosmic villain Galactus, voiced by Ralph Ineson, as the film’s central threat. The footage is the most substantive look yet at the plot and marks the first on-screen appearance of the Surfer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Set in a retro-futuristic 1960s, the film puts Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm at the start of MCU Phase Six. Directed by WandaVision veteran Matt Shakman, the picture opens worldwide on 25 July and is Marvel’s first Fantastic Four feature since Disney acquired Fox. The studio has paired the clip with an aggressive global publicity tour. The cast greeted fans in Berlin on 8 July, held a stylized press conference at Oscar Niemeyer’s Espace Niemeyer in Paris on 9 July, appeared at a London launch event the following day, and walked the blue carpet at the film’s first full premiere in Sydney on 15 July. Speaking en route, Pascal said the story ‘is about family and collective strength,’ while co-star Mark Gatiss told Variety the production’s secrecy left even some actors unsure how the story ends.
