Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s original horror picture “Weapons” led the North American box office with an estimated $42.5 million from 3,202 theaters over the weekend, outperforming earlier tracking that pointed to a roughly $30 million debut. Overseas, the film collected about $27.5 million, including $3.6 million in the U.K., $2.7 million in Mexico, $2.0 million in France, $1.8 million in Australia and $1.6 million in Spain, bringing its worldwide launch to roughly $70 million. The opening extends Warner Bros.’ dominant run in 2025, giving the studio its seventh domestic No. 1 launch of the year and its sixth consecutive release to bow above the $40 million mark—an industry record. Directed by Zach Cregger, “Weapons” benefited from strong reviews and premium-format turnout, seizing 34 percent of domestic ticket sales from IMAX and other large-screen venues, according to industry estimates. Rounding out the weekend’s top five in North America were Disney’s family comedy “Freakier Friday” with $29 million, Marvel’s “Fantastic 4: First Steps” at $15 million, DreamWorks’ “Bad Guys 2” at $10 million and Paramount’s “The Naked Gun” reboot at $8.3 million.
