The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has named Beninese-born singer Angélique Kidjo to the Hollywood Walk of Fame’s Class of 2026, making the five-time Grammy winner the first black African performer selected for the honour. Kidjo, 64, joins a group of 35 inductees announced on 2 July and will have up to two years to schedule the unveiling ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard. Kidjo’s four-decade career spans 16 albums that blend West African styles with funk, jazz and R&B, earning her global acclaim and collaborations with artists such as Alicia Keys, Philip Glass and Burna Boy. Beyond music, she serves as a UNICEF and Oxfam goodwill ambassador and runs the Batonga Foundation, which supports girls’ education in Africa. The 2026 roster also features singer Miley Cyrus, actor Timothée Chalamet, former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal and French actress Marion Cotillard—the first French star to be recognised since Charles Aznavour in 2017—underscoring the Walk of Fame’s increasingly international slate of honourees.
