Torrential rain early Sunday caused the Lampasas River to surge more than 30 feet near Kempner, Texas, with gauges showing a rise of about 32 feet in roughly five hours, according to emergency weather monitors. The Kempner Volunteer Fire Department ordered evacuations at two RV parks and assisted the local police department in moving elderly residents from nearby apartments. Crews also closed several county roads and a section of U.S. Highway 190 as water approached the bridge deck. First responders carried out water rescues amid fast-moving floodwater laden with debris. No injuries had been reported by late afternoon, but officials warned that additional storms could prolong dangerous conditions and kept flood warnings in effect for the Lampasas River basin.
