The National Weather Service in Boulder issued a series of severe thunderstorm warnings on Friday and Saturday for large portions of Colorado’s Front Range, including Boulder, Jefferson, Douglas, El Paso and Teller counties. Forecasters said storms moving across the foothills and western suburbs of Denver could generate hail as large as ping-pong balls and wind gusts near 50 mph. The warnings covered communities such as Nederland, Golden, Evergreen and Colorado Springs, with the latest alerts set to remain in force until at least 5:30 p.m. MDT on Aug. 23. The weather service advised residents to seek shelter indoors, avoid windows and remain alert for potential flash flooding and additional updates as the storm cells track eastward.
