The National Weather Service is cautioning residents across a broad swath of the Midwest and Southeast to remain alert for scattered but potentially severe thunderstorms through Friday, June 27. In Illinois and Indiana, NWS Chicago said storms that began June 25 could bring wind gusts of 50–60 mph, torrential rain and frequent lightning, with additional cells possible north of Interstate 80 overnight. NWS Milwaukee reported a broken line of storms with damaging winds moving into Wisconsin on the evening of June 26. Farther south, several NWS offices placed parts of the Southeast under a Marginal Risk for severe weather on June 27. NWS Tampa Bay warned of hail up to one inch in diameter, damaging gusts and heavy downpours in interior Florida. NWS Miami and NWS Melbourne said much of the peninsula could see strong storms as sea-breeze boundaries collide. NWS Atlanta and NWS Columbia forecast similar afternoon and evening storms capable of damaging winds and intense rainfall across Georgia and South Carolina. Forecasters urged people to monitor alerts and move indoors when thunder is heard, noting that the hit-and-miss nature of the storms means not all areas will receive rain, but any storm that does form could become severe quickly.
