The Oak Ridge Fire in Apache County, Arizona, has rapidly expanded since igniting on June 28, 2025. Initially estimated at 10 acres, the wildfire grew to over 200 acres within hours and continued to spread aggressively, reaching more than 1,000 acres by the morning of June 29. The fire advanced toward a natural gas pipeline and plant near St. Michaels, prompting local authorities to dispatch all available tankers and crews, including multiple hotshot teams and air support. By the evening of June 29, the fire neared 2,000 acres with zero containment. Over the following days, the fire's size nearly tripled, reaching approximately 6,300 acres by June 30, still with no containment, and evacuation orders were issued for residents of the Navajo Nation communities near St. Michaels and southwest of Saint Michaels. On July 1, the fire's growth accelerated further, expanding to nearly 10,000 acres amid strong winds, with flame lengths exceeding 200 feet and firefighters forced to retreat to safety zones before re-engaging. The Navajo Nation declared a state of emergency as the fire surpassed 10,600 acres by July 2, with over 400 personnel engaged in firefighting efforts but containment remaining at 0-1%. Strategic firing operations have been conducted to reduce fuels, and additional resources continue to arrive. Cooler temperatures and rain on July 3 have helped firefighters gain some control over the fire. The incident remains active with ongoing evacuations and significant firefighting resources deployed.
