A fast-moving wildfire dubbed the Gap Fire ignited on the afternoon of 9 July along Highway 50, roughly seven miles east of Scipio in central Utah. Authorities first estimated the blaze at about 10 acres but said it had expanded to roughly 250 acres within hours. Federal, state and volunteer crews are working the fire, and incident commanders have ordered air tankers and helicopters to slow its advance. No evacuations or structural damage had been reported as of late Wednesday, but officials urged motorists to avoid the corridor and use alternate routes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
