The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, including the Philadelphia metropolitan area, effective until midnight Thursday. Forecasters warn that storms moving through the region this evening could generate damaging wind gusts of 60–70 mph. A concurrent Flood Watch is also in force through late tonight. With soils already saturated, the agency cautions that rainfall rates of up to 2–3 inches an hour could trigger flash flooding in urban and low-lying locations. Officials urged residents to monitor updated forecasts and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
