The National Weather Service issued multiple tornado warnings Wednesday evening as a line of severe thunderstorms swept across the Mid-Atlantic. A warning covering New Castle County, Delaware, and neighboring Kent County, Maryland, is in effect until 9:15 p.m. EDT, indicating that a tornado has been spotted or detected by radar. A separate warning for Sussex County, Delaware—including Georgetown, Lewes and Milton—extends until 9:45 p.m. The tornado alerts come on top of a broader severe-weather threat. A severe thunderstorm watch remains in force for the Philadelphia region, including all of Delaware, until midnight, while flash-flood warnings are posted for portions of Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. Forecasters expect the heaviest storms and potential flooding to occur between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. before tapering off overnight.
