Between late June and mid-July 2025, multiple dramatic shelf clouds were observed across various locations in the United States, including North Myrtle Beach, Socastee, and Myrtle Beach in South Carolina, as well as Bowie, Prince George's County, Ellicott City in Maryland, and areas in Florida such as Oldsmar and Ruskin. These shelf clouds were associated with severe thunderstorms that prompted flash flood, thunderstorm, and tornado warnings, particularly in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region. Visual documentation of these weather phenomena was widely shared, featuring timelapse videos and photographs capturing the striking cloud formations and lightning strikes. The storms produced notable weather activity, with some shelf clouds recorded moving over populated areas like the Myrtle Beach boardwalk and Bowie, Maryland. Meteorologists and weather observers highlighted the scale and intensity of these storms, with reports noting the visibility of storm anvils from distances up to 125 miles.
