The Phoenix Suns have reached a contract buyout with three-time All-Star guard Bradley Beal, ending his two-season stint in the desert. Beal agreed to surrender about $13.9 million of the $110.8 million guaranteed on his deal, enabling the Suns to waive and stretch the remaining salary at roughly $19 million per year through 2030. The maneuver drops Phoenix below the NBA’s second tax apron and is projected to save the franchise in excess of $200 million in payroll and luxury-tax liabilities. Beal, 32, will clear waivers and sign a two-year, $11 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers that carries a player option for 2026-27, according to his agent Mark Bartelstein. The agreement allows the Clippers to use the $5.4 million left on their mid-level exception while staying just under the league’s first apron. Beal averaged 17.0 points, 3.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds last season and joins a core featuring Kawhi Leonard and James Harden after Los Angeles traded Norman Powell and added John Collins earlier this month. For Phoenix, shedding Beal’s deal follows the earlier trade of Kevin Durant and provides flexibility to pursue roster upgrades with mid-level and sign-and-trade mechanisms. The Clippers, coming off a 50-win campaign, gain additional scoring and play-making depth as they try to push deeper into the Western Conference playoffs.
