Kevin Durant and former Brooklyn Nets coach Steve Nash used a newly released episode of LeBron James’s “Mind the Game” podcast to offer their most candid assessment yet of a partnership that ended amid organizational turmoil. Durant said there was “so much bulls--- around us,” citing frequent front-office changes, high-profile trade demands and injuries that upended the roster. Nash, who was dismissed in November 2022 after just over two seasons, acknowledged that “I didn’t get to coach as much as I wanted to.” The pair insisted they remained aligned on pursuing a championship but argued persistent distractions prevented them from fielding a cohesive team. Brooklyn’s marquee trio of Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden appeared in only 16 games together and managed a single playoff-series win before the experiment collapsed. Durant, who joined the Nets in 2019 and later sought Nash’s firing, defended his coach, saying the franchise never saw “the full Steve Nash” because of factors beyond his control. Durant nonetheless described his first season in Brooklyn as “the most fun ball I had,” adding that he still values the experience. The episode marks the first time the two have publicly discussed their tenure in depth since Durant was traded to Phoenix in 2023 and, more recently, to the Houston Rockets in the NBA’s first seven-team deal completed last weekend.
