Joel Embiid says he doesn’t appreciate when people claim he cares too much about individual awards “If you are in a position to win an MVP, I don't care who you are, you're going after it because I never believed I would be in this position, first of all. Joel Embiid reveals that James Harden doesn’t speak to him anymore “No one knows this, but even James [Harden] is not talking to me. Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid said in a newly published interview on 16 July that former teammate James Harden "is not talking to me," adding that the 10-time All-Star probably believes Embiid had a hand in Harden’s departure from the club. Harden was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in November 2024 after a contentious summer in which he publicly criticised 76ers president Daryl Morey. Embiid, the 2023 NBA Most Valuable Player, also rejected criticism that he is preoccupied with individual accolades. "If you are in a position to win an MVP, I don't care who you are, you're going after it," he said, arguing that elite players naturally pursue such honours. The remarks come as Embiid enters what he has called the "most important" off-season of his career following knee surgery in March. The 31-year-old centre appeared in just 19 games last season, and the Sixers finished 24-58, their worst record since 2016.
