The Houston Rockets confirmed on 6 July 2025 that they have acquired 15-time All-Star forward Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns in a transaction that spans seven franchises, the largest trade in NBA history. The league approved the deal on Sunday, folding multiple previously negotiated moves into one package. Besides Houston and Phoenix, the agreement involves the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves. Thirteen players and a raft of draft considerations changed hands. Houston receives Durant and center Clint Capela, while Phoenix obtains guard Jalen Green, forward-guard Dillon Brooks, No. 10 draft pick Khaman Maluach and additional second-round selections. Atlanta picks up David Roddy and a 2031 second-round swap; Brooklyn gains two future second-rounders; Golden State secures rookies Alex Toohey and Jahmai Mashack; the Lakers add rookie Adou Thiero; and Minnesota lands 7-foot-3 prospect Rocco Zikarsky plus two second-round choices. Durant, 36, averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 62 games for Phoenix last season, surpassing 30,000 career points. The two-time Finals MVP and four-time scoring champion, owed $54.7 million in 2025-26, is eligible to sign a two-year extension worth up to $122 million with Houston. The move brings him to his fifth NBA club and back to Texas, where he starred for the University of Texas before entering the league in 2007. Rockets general manager Rafael Stone said Durant’s scoring efficiency and two-way impact should blend with a roster that finished second in the Western Conference. Suns executive Brian Gregory thanked Durant for his tenure and said the incoming package, led by 23-year-old Green and defensive stalwart Brooks, gives Phoenix a younger core as it recalibrates for the coming season.
