The Atlanta Dream defeated the expansion Golden State Valkyries 90-81 in Atlanta on Monday night, improving to 12-7 in their first season under coach Tanisha Wright. Three-time All-Star guard Allisha Gray paced the Dream with 24 points on 8-for-14 shooting, adding four assists and three three-pointers for her eighth 20-plus-point outing of the year. Forward Naz Hillmon supported with 16 points, six rebounds and a career-best four shots from beyond the arc. Golden State kept the margin close behind 15 points from forward Monique Billings, but the Valkyries could not erase a two-point halftime deficit. Atlanta used a 25-20 third quarter to gain separation and held on down the stretch, with Kayla Thornton and Tiffany Hayes supplying timely baskets at both ends.
