Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic has decided not to sign a contract extension this offseason, according to reports from The Denver Post, the Associated Press and ESPN. The 30-year-old became eligible on 8 July to add three years and roughly $212 million to the super-max deal he signed in 2022 but informed team officials he will postpone negotiations. Waiting until at least the 2026 offseason would allow the three-time MVP to tack on four years instead of three and capture an additional estimated $80 million, raising the potential add-on value to about $292-$300 million. Jokic remains under contract for two more guaranteed seasons at $55.2 million and $59 million, with a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28, leaving his short-term status in Denver unchanged. Club leadership expected the decision. “We’re definitely going to offer it,” Kroenke Sports & Entertainment vice-chairman Josh Kroenke said in June, adding that the organisation would explain “every financial parameter” and support whatever choice Jokic made. The Nuggets have overhauled their roster and staff after consecutive second-round playoff exits, promoting David Adelman to head coach, trading Michael Porter Jr. for Cam Johnson, and adding Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. Management hopes the revamped supporting cast will keep the team in contention as it prepares to revisit contract talks with its franchise centre next summer.
