Rebekah Prevost is recovering after she was struck by lightning outside her Baton Rouge, Louisiana, home on July 3. Prevost was running from her vehicle toward the house when a bolt knocked her unconscious, leaving her bloody and disoriented. Local outlets report she considers herself “blessed” to be alive and is continuing to recuperate. Less than a week later, a 28-year-old man was hit by lightning while playing the 15th hole at the Ballyowen Golf Course in Hardyston, New Jersey, shortly before 2 p.m. on July 9. Witness Brian Delia said lightning had been visible for about 30 minutes before the strike and that no warning horns sounded until after emergency crews arrived. The victim was airlifted to hospital; his condition has not been disclosed. The two incidents, occurring six days and nearly 1,300 miles apart, underscore the risk of lightning during summer storms and the importance of seeking shelter as soon as thunder is heard or lightning is seen.
