The National Weather Service issued a series of severe thunderstorm warnings across the Northeast on two separate days, July 3 and July 8. On the evening of July 3, NWS offices in New York and Boston warned residents in central and southern Connecticut—including New Haven, Hartford, Waterbury and Danbury—as well as portions of Massachusetts and Rhode Island such as Webster, Fall River, Providence and Warwick. Most warnings remained in effect until roughly 7:45 p.m. EDT. A second round of warnings was posted the afternoon of July 8, this time extending into New York’s lower Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey. Communities such as Kiryas Joel, Ossining, Peekskill, Franklin and Ringwood, along with parts of southwestern Connecticut including Stamford and Norwalk, were covered by advisories that ran through approximately 3:15 p.m. EDT. The alerts indicate atmospheric conditions capable of producing severe thunderstorms, prompting the agency to urge residents to monitor updates and take shelter if necessary. No additional information on damage or power outages was immediately available from the weather service.
