I'm pleased that the Judiciary Committee advanced the nomination of Mary Kay Lanthier for federal District Court judge of Vermont out of committee today with bipartisan support. A well-respected public defender in Vermont, I'm urging my colleagues to confirm her quickly.
The latest round comes as Senate Democrats get ready to confirm Meredith Vacca for the Western District of New York later Wednesday. https://t.co/FrgCY5P6K6
The Senate has confirmed Judge Meredith Vacca to the Western District of New York, making her the first Asian American and the first woman of color to serve on this bench. Vacca, a longtime resident of the Rochester area and a graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Law, has over 15 years of experience advocating for vulnerable New Yorkers. Her confirmation marks a significant milestone, as the formerly all-male Western District bench is now 50% female. Senator Schumer, who recommended her to the President, expressed pride in her confirmation. Rep Joe Morelle also congratulated Vacca, highlighting her commitment to justice, fairness, and integrity.
