Former OpenAI researcher secures funding to support artificial intelligence startups.
Leonis Capital, founded by former OpenAI researcher Jenny Xiao, has closed a $25 million fund focused on backing early-stage artificial-intelligence companies. The vehicle attracted commitments from senior executives at Nvidia, OpenAI and Anthropic, according to people familiar with the raise. The San Francisco-based firm plans to use proprietary software that tracks activity on GitHub and in academic journals to identify promising technical founders who may be overlooked by traditional venture investors. Xiao said the goal is to spot the "next OpenAI" by investing at the pre-seed and seed stages.
