The New York Giants will start newly signed quarterback Russell Wilson in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, New York, giving coach Brian Daboll his first in-game look at the veteran since the club committed to him on a one-year, $10.5 million contract in March. Wilson, 36, was confirmed as the team’s regular-season starter when training camp opened on July 23. He will face a Bills defense led by Mitch Trubisky, who gets the nod while reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Josh Allen rests. Giants rookie Jaxson Dart, the No. 25 pick in April’s draft, is expected to receive significant playing time after Wilson’s stint, while veteran backup Jameis Winston could also see action. Saturday marks Wilson’s first game action since a calf injury shortened his 2024 campaign with Pittsburgh to 11 starts in which he threw for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. The 10-time Pro Bowler has logged 199 regular-season starts for Seattle, Denver and Pittsburgh, winning a Super Bowl with the Seahawks and amassing 46,135 passing yards and 350 touchdowns over his career. The exhibition will also allow Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to gauge the chemistry between Wilson and a reshaped receiving corps before the Giants open the regular season on Sept. 7 at Washington.
