Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones disclosed that he secretly fought stage-4 melanoma for roughly a decade after being diagnosed in 2010. In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, the 82-year-old said the cancer spread to other organs, requiring two lung operations and two lymph-node surgeries before he entered a clinical trial for PD-1 immunotherapy at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Jones credited the experimental PD-1 drug and what he called “fabulous treatment and great doctors” for eliminating his tumors, adding that he now shows no evidence of disease. The revelation comes ahead of next week’s release of the Netflix docuseries “America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys,” in which he briefly references receiving cancer care. Jones bought the Cowboys for $140 million in 1989 and has overseen three Super Bowl titles. Sportico currently values the franchise at about $12.8 billion, the highest in the NFL.
