Disney: ESPN & NFL Reach New Pacts To Extend NFL Draft Rights
Disney's ESPN and the National Football League Secure New Agreements to Continue Live Coverage of the NFL Draft 📺🏈
Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN and the National Football League have signed new multi-year agreements that keep the NFL Draft on ESPN and broaden the league’s presence on the network’s soon-to-launch direct-to-consumer streaming platform. Under the deal, ESPN retains exclusive cable and digital rights to televise all rounds of the annual NFL Draft. The pacts also add unspecified NFL programming and interactive features to the streaming service, which is expected to debut later this year at roughly $29.99 per month and will include access to a digital version of NFL RedZone. Financial terms and the exact length of the contracts were not disclosed, but the agreements deepen a relationship that dates back to ESPN’s first NFL telecast in 1987 and position the network to capture streaming audiences as more consumers move away from traditional pay-TV bundles.
