Fox Sports is in advanced discussions to bring Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy onto its Saturday college-football pre-game program, Big Noon Kickoff, according to multiple reports including Front Office Sports. The agreement, which has not yet been signed, would place Portnoy alongside analysts Urban Meyer, Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, Mark Ingram and host Rob Stone ahead of the network’s marquee noon Eastern game each week. The talks form part of a wider arrangement that would license Barstool Sports content for Fox’s FS1 cable channel. Executives intend to fill airtime opened by the recent cancellation of three shows—Breakfast Ball, Speak and The Facility—with programming drawn from Barstool’s catalogue, sources said. Financial terms and the exact slate of Barstool shows under consideration have not been disclosed. Fox launched Big Noon Kickoff in 2019 to compete directly with ESPN’s College GameDay and has steadily expanded the franchise. By tapping Portnoy—whose digital following is strong among viewers aged 18–34—the network is seeking to counter ESPN’s addition of former Barstool personality Pat McAfee while giving Barstool a return to linear television after its brief, ill-fated stint with ESPN in 2017. Fox declined to comment on the pending deal.
As anyone been more successful at monetizing their audience than Dave? Guy is an absolute genius. Great move by Fox but will it end like it did with ESPN? https://t.co/yYQhtv7uzX
