The New England Patriots have claimed quarterback Tommy DeVito off waivers one day after the New York Giants released the 27-year-old passer during their final roster cuts. DeVito joins a quarterback room that already features starter Drake Maye and backup Josh Dobbs; New England had an opening after cutting undrafted rookie Ben Wooldridge. DeVito made a timely impression on the Patriots in the clubs’ preseason finale last week, completing 17 of 20 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns against them. Originally undrafted out of Syracuse in 2023, he appeared in 12 games for the Giants over two seasons, starting eight and posting a 3-5 record with eight touchdown passes, three interceptions and one rushing score. The Giants let DeVito go after signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency and drafting Jaxson Dart in the first round, leaving no room for the New Jersey native who became a fan favorite for his "Tommy Cutlets" persona. In a separate move, New England also picked up cornerback Charles Woods as it finalizes its 53-man roster before opening the 2025 season on Sept. 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
