Baloch separatist fighters mounted a series of coordinated assaults across Pakistan’s south-western Balochistan province overnight, with the deadliest attack striking an army camp and quick-reaction force of the 328 Brigade in Basima, Washuk District. Insurgents opened fire from two directions, killing Captain Muhammad Asif and eight other soldiers and wounding six, according to local security sources. After overrunning the position, the attackers briefly took control of an adjacent Levies police station, confiscated weapons and set the building and as many as 50 motorbikes ablaze before withdrawing. Residents reported more than a dozen explosions and sustained gunfire for over 30 minutes. The Basima raid followed earlier incidents the same day in Dalbandin, Nasirabad and Jhal Magsi, where militants targeted checkpoints and torched military supply vehicles. The surge in violence underscores the persistence of the decades-old insurgency, which seeks greater autonomy and a larger share of the region’s resource revenue.
