At least three passengers were killed and seven wounded when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a Karachi-to-Quetta coach near Nimargh Cross on the RCD (N-25) highway in Kalat district on Wednesday, provincial spokesperson Shahid Rind said. The assailants escaped and the wounded were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital Kalat, where an emergency was declared. Local media reported that the fatalities included two brothers of renowned qawwal Majid Ali Sabri, who were travelling with fellow musicians to perform at a wedding in Quetta. Most of the victims were residents of Karachi, and several of the injured remain in critical condition. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and vowed that the perpetrators would "pay a very heavy price." Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. The shooting comes a week after nine passengers were abducted and killed in neighbouring districts, highlighting a surge in militant violence against civilian traffic in Balochistan.
