At least seven young activists affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from Lahore, who were detained in connection with the May 9 fabricated cases, have died from hepatitis after being imprisoned at Kot Lakhpat and Camp jails. Among the deceased is Iftikhar Jutt, who succumbed to hepatitis while on his deathbed after serving one year in jail. The deaths have raised serious concerns about the conditions in the prisons and the alleged negligence of authorities responsible for inmate health. PTI officials and supporters have called for investigations into the spread of hepatitis within the jails, highlighting that all six men who died while incarcerated were illegally imprisoned political prisoners. The cases themselves have been widely criticized as baseless, with reports indicating that the central witness for the May 9 cases was not even on duty on the day of the alleged incident, further questioning the legitimacy of the prosecutions. PTI has labeled the May 9 events as a conspiracy orchestrated by state institutions against their party and leader Imran Khan.
