Qualifying for Sunday’s Formula 1 British Grand Prix was halted on Saturday after Alpine rookie Franco Colapinto spun coming out of the final corner, slid into the gravel and made light contact with the barriers. The Argentine climbed out unaided, but the red flag with just under seven minutes remaining ended his participation in Q1 and consigned him to the back of the grid. The stoppage capped a disrupted day at Silverstone. Earlier, final practice was twice interrupted when debris was found at Stowe and, moments after the restart, Haas driver Gabriel Bortoleto beached his car in the gravel. Oliver Bearman also lost a front-wing endplate near the pit entry. The session finished under red flags with Charles Leclerc setting the benchmark 1:25.498 ahead of Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen. When qualifying resumed, Verstappen secured pole position ahead of Piastri and Lando Norris, according to Argentine outlet Ámbito. Colapinto will line up 20th, behind Nico Hülkenberg, Lance Stroll and fellow rookies Bortoleto and Bearman, leaving Alpine facing another recovery drive in Sunday’s race.
